Graduate Student Oral/Poster Competition

The best student oral and poster presentations will earn specials awards!

Eligibility

To be eligible, a short paper submitted to the ICoMST scientific program committee must have been accepted for presentation at the meeting and a competition application form completed and sent separately to Dr Rick Holley at the University of Manitoba. On this form, students indicated which of either the poster or oral competition they wished to enter. These will be evaluated in separate sessions. Students could enter only one of the two competitions.

Poster competition

Contestants will make poster presentations on Monday August 13 beginning at 1 pm. The first session of judging by the committee shall consist of poster reviews with none of the contestants present. Poster presentation should be completely assembled on Monday August 13 between 11:30 am and 12 noon. The room location will be provided on site at the registration desk.

A brief meeting for competitors will be held at 12:00 pm to confirm the order of presentation of poster materials by contestants. Poster presentations will be 5 minutes in length followed by a 5 minute Question and Answer period with only the judges present. Posters should be removed by contestants following the competition (by about 15:00).

Posters must comply with requirements for presentation in the non-competition sections of the meeting. Presenters are also expected to present their poster during the regular poster session that you will be assigned to.

Please note that a student mixer is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 13 between 12:00 h and 13:00 h in Le Portage Room.

Oral presentation competition

A PowerPoint presentation format lasting 12 minutes followed by an 8 minute Question and Answer period will be used by judges to evaluate performance in a public venue. This competition will be held Tuesday morning, August 14 at 8:30 am to noon, with location to be announced on site.

Deadline

Short papers were to be submitted to the conference scientific programme committee and a completed competition entry form sent to rick_holley@umanitoba.ca by **March 30 , 2012. We thank all students who showed interest in the competition program.
